Labor Day began in the late 19th century when the trade unionists proposed that a day should be set aside to celebrate labor. Eventually the first Monday in September was chosen. It honors the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of the United States.

My research also suggests that the Catholic Church ‘built’ many of their holidays/traditions on pagan holidays, which often celebrated equinox, solstice, etc. For instance, my research suggests that Easter’s eggs were originally a symbol from the pagan spring Equinox. =^.^=

      5. It’s true! Many catholic traditions came from the pagan ones, the Ancient Romans trasnformed them at the time Chrtistianism “conquered” North Italy and Europe to govern the populations under military and cultural conditions 🙂

      6. Exactly, which is why I wondered if you might have a comparable holiday. That said, holidays, which are national vs. religious are usually just for the specific country. For instance, Mom says that when they lived in the Republic of Panama, they couldn’t get anything done in November because it was ‘independence month’… Independence from Spain, Independence from Columbia, Independence from the US… >^.^<
