Oh Meow is Me!

Dear Furiends,

20190415_094209Oh Meow is me, being a mother hen is distracting… exhausting… messy, too! The chicks got nip everywhere. Thankfully, it was some old nip that had been forgotten on the bookshelf…. Fureiends, I know many of you have the ‘nip gene’ so you probably can’t imagine how Katsu and I could possibly forget a bag of nip, but neither of us have that gene, so we don’t crave it.

Anyway, getting back to my latest 20190404_223955unexpected event, CP & DD (actually DD was probably the leader, she’s quite the little leader – smart, too – even seems to have learned to come when the chef calls her. Sorry for digressing. They climbed up me, hopped off my shoulder and landed on to the shelf …. Since they didn’t look like they’d fall, I didn’t pay attention to what they were doing… That was my mistake. 65d13dde88991a115d46e726751a2974They found the old nip, then managed to open the bag. My nose advised me of this about the point in time when I realized it was raining nip… A most unexpected occurrance!20190404_224147

In fact, I think it is safe to call this a catastrophe.

I don’t think they actually ate any which is good, because I don’t know if ‘nip is good for baby birds. For sure, they had a lot of fun making the mess. Eventually they settled into a cozy spot and fell asleep

It has been swept up and is going to the garden for compost. The chicks seemed to like playing in it though and I will never forget seeing ‘nip rain down on me.

    1. It was most unexpected… I’ve never had one, previously. I also don’t have ‘the gene’, so am not addicted to ‘nip, but I love the way it keeps nasty bugs away.

    1. Katsu, dear brofur, my babies will grow up to be between 2-3 pounds, but VERY fluffy, so they’ll look larger. As per wikipedia, “Silkies are well known for their calm, friendly temperament. It is among the most docile of poultry. Hens are also exceptionally broody, and care for young well. Though they are fair layers themselves, laying only about three eggs a week, they are commonly used to hatch eggs from other breeds and bird species due to their broody nature.” Silkie chickens also make good pets.
