The Sun is enormous – its mass comprises over 99.8 percent of the entire solar system. Its diameter is about 865,000 miles and it weighs as much as 330,000 Earths.

The Sun is 75 percent hydrogen which fuses into helium, releasing energy heating its core.

Technically, the Sun is a yellow dwarf star which in a few billion years will become a red giant then a white dwarf.

The Sun is about 93 million miles from Earth; its light takes 8min 20sec to reach us.

The Earth orbits the Sun and the Sun orbits the centre of the Milky Way galaxy. Its speed is about 230km (142 miles) a second.

The Greek philosopher Anaxagoras suggested that the Sun is not the chariot of the god Helios. He was also the first to explain that the Moon shines with light reflected from the Sun.

The Peruvian currency is called the “sol”…

    1. And just think, eons ago, base molecules of the air we breath was in the lungs of dinosaurs …. the world is quite marvelous and things are continually being recycled. =^.^=
